# Settings

### Saving your changes

When you change a setting, a **Save** and **Discard** bar appears at the bottom of your screen.

### Locomotive

* **Locomotive Name:** the name shown on the control page and WIFI name.
* **DCC / DC:** the type of locomotive you have. To change it, tap the other option, slide to confirm, then tap **Confirm**. The controller restarts afterwards. This is separate from the Save button.
* **DCC Address:** your locomotive’s address (1 to 9999). Only shown for DCC.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Only change between DCC and DC if you’ve actually changed the locomotive or its wiring. The wrong choice can damage your locomotive or controller.

**Recommended Steps:**

1. Unplug your Pulse Controller.
2. Rewire the locomotive.
3. Power on the Pulse Controller *without* any output connection to the DCC decoder or motor.
4. Switch the output mode (DCC/DC).
5. Power off the Pulse Controller.
6. Reconnect the output wires to the locomotive electronics.
   {% endhint %}

### WiFi settings

* **WiFi Password:** the password for your locomotive’s WiFi network. Write it down somewhere safe.
* **Captive Portal:** when switched on, the control page opens automatically when you join the WiFi. Switch it off if you’d rather open the page yourself.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you forget your WiFi password, you can reset it by power cycling the controller 3 times.
{% endhint %}

### Control settings

**Control Type** lets you choose how you change speed of your loco:

* **Slider:** drag along a bar.
* **Buttons:** tap FASTER and SLOWER.

### Speed limits

Use these to set the slowest and fastest speed limits for your locomotive.

* **Minimum speed:** the speed you get at the lowest throttle.
* **Maximum speed:** the speed you get at full throttle.

{% hint style="info" %}
Set the minimum to the point where the motor just starts to turn, so the lowest throttle setting always moves the locomotive.
{% endhint %}

### Function buttons *(DCC locomotives only)*

You’ll see a grid of buttons labelled F0 to F28. Tap any function to customise it:

* **Name:** up to 12 characters, such as “Headlight” or “Horn”.
* **Visible or Hidden:** hide buttons your locomotive doesn’t use to keep the control page tidy.
* **Momentary:** tick this if the function should only work while you hold the button.

### **Import and Export**

Import and Export lets you back up your button setup, copy it to another locomotive or share it with a friend.

* **Import** loads data from a saved file. You’ll be asked which data to bring in such as: **Loco Name**, **Control Type** and/or **Functions**.
* **Export** saves your settings to a file on your mobile device.

### Factory reset

Factory Reset will reset everything back to how it was when you first bought the controller.

{% hint style="danger" %}
This can’t be undone. Export your settings first if you want a backup.
{% endhint %}
